Douglas G. Hayes has over 30 years of experience with surfactants and detergents and their use in soft matter systems. Dr. Hayes also has research interests in value-added products from renewable resources, biopolymers in agricultural systems, and nanotechnology.

Dr. Hayes has published over 75 publications in peer-reviewed journals, over 20 book chapters, and two co-edited books. A third co-edited book, Biobased Surfactants: Synthesis, Properties, and Applications (2nd Edition), is currently in preparation. He serves as an editor for two scientific journals. He has won awards for both his teaching and research programs.

Dr. Hayes received his BS and Ph.D. at Iowa State University (1986) and the University of Michigan (1991), respectively. Dr. Hayes serves on the Governing Board for the American Oil Chemists’ Society and the Programme Advisory Committee for the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. He is a guest professor at two Chinese universities.
